The 8th SSF took place in Stupava on 15 - 16 June 2012 under the topic:
"Common Security and Defence Policy after NATO Chicago Summit"
The purpose of the forum was the evaluation of main conclusions of NATO Summit in Chicago and their implications on global, European and Slovak security policy aspects each respectively. The summit has brought important conclusions in relation to further operating of the Allies in Afghanistan as well as to the development of military capabilities and partnership policy. The Alliance has come to consensus on the termination of its operations in Afghanistan in the sense of its current state until 2014, approved projects determined to enhance capabilities of the Allies in countering contemporary threats and confirmed the importance and relevance of continuing cooperation with partners. There were four panels established:
- General assessment of the summit of NATO leaders and member states' officials
- Evaluation of implications of the summit on Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU (CSDP)
- The implications of the summit on security and defence policy of the Slovak republic
- Conclusions on the summit from the perspective of young professionals in security and defence policy
