"European and Slovak Security in Light of Lisabon Summit and the Strategic Evaluation of Defence"
The basis for the expert discussion was laid by newly adopted strategic conception of NATO on Lisbon Summit in November and ongoing process of strategic evaluation of defence on the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic. In the first case, the new strategic conception has brought changes to Slovak and European security architecture that the member states have to face. Does the new strategic conception corresponds adequately with the changed security environment? Which capabilities will be key for future operations? Is it possible to make the cooperation of NATO and EU more effective? Does the Slovak security community evaluate the new strategic conception positively? The second point of interest was the strategic evaluation of defence. The Ministry of Defence in cooperation with the non-governmental expert sector and the academics launched the process of strategic evaluation of defence in July 2010 which is also part of new strategy of the ministry aiming to provide more information and transparency towards citizens. Which challenges is the ministry facing with regards to this process? Why is it necessary to conduct the strategic evaluation?
